He has graduated from the King George Medical College, Lucknow, India. He moved to USA on 
November, 1969 and became the first year resident at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Trehan has been president of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery. As the Chairman of Global Health Pvt. Ltd, he is overseeing the building of an integrated healthcare facility which is fashioned after the Institutes like Johns Hopkins Hospital and Mayo Medical School.
