A heart touching story of a baby girl named Umra. Umra’s parents always wanted a baby girl as a child, it was their dream to have a baby girl they believe it as a best gift from the God and feel really blessed for this. Just after her birth, parents came to know that she has a heart problem, immediately they started searching for the best hospital in their country when there was no facility found there they decided to come to India. Umra was just 2 days old when she was diagnosed with Shone’s complex heart disease. Shone’s complex heart disease is a very rare congenital heart disease consisting of multiple defects that affect the left side of the Heart.
Within just 24 – 36 hours they flew to India with their tender baby for her best treatment. After reaching India they directly went to the Max hospital and met Dr. Kulbhushan Singh Dagar, he is one of the top doctors at Max Healthcare, specialized in Pediatrics/Paediatric Cardiac Surgery. He examined the baby and found that The condition of the baby was very delicate and she was critical, she was hardly able to breathe, the doctors could not feel any pulses anywhere in the baby’s body and she was literally, struggling to survive. Dr. Dagar told the family that one of the valves of the baby’s heart is totally blocked because of which there is a difficulty in breathing as the oxygen and blood was not pumping out to the body.
According to the surgeon the aorta of the baby was not only obstructed but was totally disjointed which resulted in no blood supply in lower part of the body. It was clear that the surgery was required for the baby for the complex reconstruction of the aorta to do the normal blood supply to the critical organs of the body . The baby was just of 7 days old when she was operated. The surgery was successfully done and as the baby was too small she took some time to recover after that. As the surgery was done there were some nominal problem in the valves which will be cured when the baby will be 5 months old, as the baby was too small it was not possible for the surgeon to perform 2 surgeries at a time because of the bleeding and some complications may occur and was very dangerous for the baby.
The second surgery was done when the baby was 5 months old, and the heart was opened out by narrowing the outflow from the left ventricle, repaired the aorta and opened all the obstructions in sub aortic area as well so that the pumping of the blood goes well in the body.
The parents of the baby received a satisfactory response for the surgeries, they gave a heartful of thanks to the doctor and team of Max hospital. A happy bond was shared between the team and the family. The baby can now lead a happy and normal childhood which is priceless for the doctors. The parents were extremely joyed and happy with the results of the treatment.
